Islesboro joins National ICE Out protests; remembers Renee Good
More than 20 people gathered on short notice Saturday, January 10, beside the Islesboro Second Baptist Church to remember Renee Nicole Good and condemn her murder in Minneapolis as unacceptable and demand an end to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) atrocity.
Janis Petzel, who organized the Islesboro vigil in solidarity with the nationwide protests promoted by Indivisible and other organization, said, “The violence in which Renne Good died is unacceptable and does not promote freedom and justice for all.”
Arch Gillies, Philo Hutcheson, Sandy Oliver, Tom Tutor, Doug Welldon, and others urged everyone to contact federal representatives immediately and often to express outrage over Renee Good’s murder and the Trump administration’s deployment of ICE and other militaristic forces in recent months.
Those gathered expressed empathy with the Minnesota community and the extensive anti-ICE protests across the country. A three-minute period of silence for contemplation and meditation demonstrated respect for Renee Good and other patriotic citizens who died recently in tragic events because of vindictive, racist and fascist persecution.
The Second Baptist Church provided a warming area and hot tea in the Fellowship Room.
