Free concert by Bay Chamber Music School faculty, Oct. 19
Sunday, Oct. 19, at 4 p.m., Bay Chamber Music School faculty will share their musical gifts for free. The concert will take place in Hammer Hall, 5 Mountain Street, in Camden.
A total of 16 faculty members will perform. They range from vocalists to pianists to strings players and more. It will be an afternoon of Rachmaninoff and Debussy.
"They don't just teach music, though they do that very well," said Bay Chamber. "Our faulty members have advanced degrees and continue to perform. Some have played at major venues including Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. Some have composed music for movies and television series."
"It's always wonderful to hear the surprising, moving and outstanding work of my colleagues at Bay Chamber," said John Mehrmann, faculty member, multi-instrumentalist, and composer whose piece San Francisco Counterpoint will be played at the concert.
There will be many memorable performances, according to Bay Chamber. Claire Helene Bevan, piano faculty, described a moment to listen for: “The second movement of Samuel Barber's Excursions, entitled ‘In slow blues tempo,’ feels like a balm for my soul and a prayer, immersing me into a dream of possibility where the living is easy for all.”
The Faculty Concert is free, with donations accepted at the door to support the Music School Scholarship Fund.
