WALDOBORO — The final Artwalk Waldoboro of the 2026 season will be held Friday, Aug. 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. Visitors are invited to explore galleries, businesses, and public spaces throughout the historic village. The evening will feature artists, makers, exhibitions, live music, and special programming at venues throughout downtown. 

At The Waldo Theatre and Broad Bay Congregational Church, visitors can celebrate longtime Waldoboro artist Audrey Bechler, who turned 90 this year. Bechler’s paintings will be on view at both locations from 4 to 7 p.m. At 7 p.m., The Waldo will screen Reflections, a short film celebrating Bechler’s life and work, followed by a free concert of music written by her late husband, beloved jazz pianist and composer Charlie Bechler. Trumpeter and Bay Chamber teacher Mike Whitehead will lead the performance, joined by pianist Tom Luther of Midcoast Music Academy and bassist Cyrus Huff. Bechler is also donating her original painting, "Old Well Pump", to be raffled during the event, with proceeds benefiting The Waldo. 

At Waldoboro Public Library, the trustees will host the opening reception, from 5 to 7 p.m., for the "Great Art for Great Reads" online art and experiences auction. Visitors may view the artwork before 5 p.m. during the library’s regular open hours. The auction supports the library and offers an opportunity to discover original art for a good cause. 

At Perch Café & Bakery, Artwalk visitors can see work by Helena Jefferson, Erin Dowd, Ocean, Yelitse Servellon, Abby Elliott, Alan Dursee, and Alex Caron. The exhibition brings together a diverse range of sculpture, ceramics, works on paper, and painting exploring identity, relationships, memory, belonging, and the natural world. 

Holmes + Hudson Collective will feature Midcoast illustrator and designer Avery Reed, whose illustrations, patterns, and stationery celebrate the natural world and the humor and wonder of childhood. Reed holds an MFA in Illustration from the Fashion Institute of Technology and works in editorial illustration, children’s books, pattern design, and special commissions. 

At The Heywood Gallery, 921 Main St., Anne Heywood presents "Goodbye Summer!", a selection of original landscapes inspired by the final days of the season. The collection captures summer lakes, relaxation, memory, and the bittersweet transition toward autumn. 

Habitat Gardening, 856 Main St., will feature music by Frankie Douglas and handmade folded books by Waldoboro artist Alex St. Peter, who has been creating book sculptures since learning the craft after the birth of her first son. Visitors are invited to enjoy the gardens and explore St. Peter’s handmade work. 

At Gravedigger’s Daughter, 882 Main St., visitors can see "Mason & Dixon", a solo exhibition of photographs by Drew Leventhal, on view through Sept. 13. Developed over seven years, the project follows Leventhal’s travels along the historic Mason-Dixon Line, exploring landscape, memory, mythology, and American identity. Outside the gallery, Diana Carbone presents photography from her ongoing project, America's Oldest Fair, documenting the Topsfield Fair and the diverse community it draws together. 

Additional participating venues include Stillpoint Chiropractic, and Dayboat Café. 

"Artwalk Waldoboro builds connections among artists, entrepreneurs, merchants, cultural organizations, and community members while supporting Waldoboro’s cultural vitality and local economy," said Gravedigger’s Daughter, in a news release.

Artwalk Waldoboro takes place on the fourth Friday of each month from May through August.
