Euretta E. Myers, obituary
ROCKLAND — Our family would like to share the loss and honor Euretta and all she contributed to her family, friends, community and pets.
Euretta E. Myers, 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and the caring staff and wildlife outside her window at the Sussman Hose in Rockport. Euretta often said, "When it’s my time to go, don’t be sad – I’ve had a good life," fondly recalling her countless adventures and saying she really ought to write a book.
Born and raised in Rockland, she spent much of her life in Pleasant Gardens and later Knott Street in Rockland, where her neighbors became like family. In her final years at Quarry Hill, she gained an extended family among a few special nurses whom she affectionately called her "grandchildren," cherishing the nightly routine of being tucked in and kissed goodnight.
On January 17, 1948, Eretta married the love of her life, George Myers, Sr., and together they enjoyed 67 wonderful years of marriage. They raised four children and delighted in their grandchildren and ever-growing family. One of her fondest memories with George was their time living in Alaska, where she loved traveling "the big mountain." Euretta was a self-taught and talented bass guitarist. She was especially proud of having played with country music legend Dick Curless, often telling stores of the fun she had during those days. She even named her beloved "healing bear" after him.
Known for being "always on the road," she could be found at diners in town, local bingo halls, or buying scratch tickets at her favorite stores. She had remarkable luck with winnings, from motorcycles to cash, which she used to spoil her grandchildren, build garages for her sons, and take her family on trips to Las Vegas. She enjoyed socializing and spending time with her grandchildren, often recounting how fortunate she was to be here for so many. Family gatherings, birthdays of all ages, cookouts, and dinners were her joy, and she worked tirelessly to keep everyone connected. Euretta loved animals and cared for countless cats and a few dogs, even making sure Gus the seagull, and the neighborhood skunks, were well fed.
She is survived by her daughters, Gloria Britto and Betty Davis; her son-in-law, Steve Davis; her daughter-in-law, Edith ‘Buffy’ Myers and Elaine Myers. Her cherished grandchildren and their families include: granddaughter Sonya Myers and her children Dustin Cote and his partner Madison Beal, Ashely Mae Deabler and her partner Vincent Ceccola; granddaughter Kayla Myers French and her husband Jeff and their children, Kameron and Austin French; granddaughter Whitney Myers (a.k.a Euretta’s twin) and her partner Dallas Roberts and their child Aikyn Roberts; grandson Johnny Myers, Jr. and his wife Tara and their daughter Adelyn; grandsons, Matthew and Jacob Myers; granddaughter Jessica Wagner and her husband Chuck and their daughters, Anna Wagner, Casey Wagner Posers and her husband Joe; granddaughter Jenna Davis (daughter of the late Steven David, Jr.); grandson Shane Hatch; as well as great-great-grandchildren, Layla Burns and Lyric Ceccola, Violet, Natalia and Lucas Powers. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends, all of whom she called her own.
Euretta leaves behind a legacy of laughter, music, adventure and unconditional love, for her family, her friend and every creature great and small. For those who wish to honor her memory, please have a family dinner, buy a scratch ticket, share coffee with friends, donate to the humane society or even feed the gulls (as long as you don’t get caught by the town or neighbors).
A graveside gathering and celebration of her life will be announced soon.
