ROCKLAND — Enid Dana passed away peacefully with her daughters at her side on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Breakwater Commons where she had lived for the past three years. She had endured a long decline in health, with the end of her life coming quickly and peacefully.

Enid was born in Old Town, and grew up on Monhegan Island. When she was 12 years old, she and her family moved inshore to Thomaston where they lived for many years. While in high school, Enid was on several committees, played basketball, was a cheerleader, and maintained high grades in all her classes. She went to work at the Clarence Joy Insurance Agency four days after graduating in 1948.

Enid married Robert (Bobby) Watts in 1950 and together they raised their two daughters, Kerry and Kimberly, in Thomaston. While the girls were little, Enid was active in many school and community organizations including the Girl Scouts, PTA, Mothers’ March of Dimes, American Legion Auxiliary, American Foreign Student Exchange Program, Dollars for Scholars, and the Federated Church. She also found time to teach cake decorating with the Adult Education Program and did the bookkeeping for Bob’s trucking business. She was a great cook, and made special birthday and wedding cakes for family and friends. She made many of her own, and the girls’, clothes, including their wedding dresses. She and Bob hosted many family holidays and birthday parties; their door was always open for family and friends. When the girls were in middle school, Enid cut back on her involvement with many of the volunteer organizations and went to work at Georges Valley High School, soon becoming the Head Secretary and Administrative Assistant to the Principal.

In 1986, Enid remarried and moved to Pittsfield. She and her second husband, John Dana, ran the J W Parks Golf Course at Maine Central Institute where John had been a math teacher for several years. Upon their retirement, they moved to Florida, made many friends, played lots of golf, and enjoyed swimming, exploring the state, and seeing the occasional alligator on the golf course.

They returned to Thomaston to be closer to family when John became ill with Alzheimer’s. Enid became involved with the Federated Church and enjoyed the company of many old friends. Mornings were often spent at F & A Market with the “Coffee Club”. She continued sewing and crafting, mostly toys, for her two granddaughters, whom she loved dearly.

In addition to her immediate family, Enid was part of a very large extended family on both of her parents’ sides. She loved being with all of them and was especially close to her daughters and her sister Virginia Saastamoinen Crute.

Enid was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Lelia (Grant) Stanley; her husband John; sister Virginia; and niece Kristi Saastamoinen Dugas.

She is survived by her daughters, Kerry Watts Weber and her partner Chris Richards, Kimberly Watts Payne and her husband Joe Payne; granddaughters Kiara Weber and Kelsey Weber; sister-in-law Annie (Watts) Thorndike; brother-in-law Bentley Watts; niece Karyl Saastamoinen Breen and her husband Dan; cousin Theowanda Knowles; and several other cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Services will be held on August 31, 2026, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street in Rockland. A time of visitation will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a service at 2 p.m., and a graveside committal at the Village Cemetery in Thomaston.
