Dump truck rolls over in Hope during heavy rainstorm
HOPE — A driver was able to crawl out of an overturned dump truck, Wednesday morning, after firefighters removed the windshield.
October 8, 2025, at approximately 10:30 a.m., during a heavy rainstorm, Hope firefighters were alerted to a rollover opposite 214 Main Street (Route 17), just west of the South Hope fire station. Hearing that the driver was entrapped, Hope Fire Chief Mike Eaton requested mutual aid from Rockport FD for extracation equipment. Arriving first, and confirming entrapment, RFD set to work dislodging the window and helping the operator down, through the muddy ditch, and into an awaiting North East Ambulance. As is standard, two North East ambulances responded to the call, though the truck only contained one occupant. Two Knox County Sheriff's deputies also responded to the call.
Route 17 was initially closed to all traffic while responders responded to and assessed the situation. Eventually, one lane was reopened, allowing freighliners to continue on, while the crews waited for AutoMaster Towing, out of St. George, which arrived on scene at approximately 10:45 a.m. Meanwhile, an excavator and smaller dump truck worked within the abutting property to offload the gravel from the overturned rig.
A mudflap on the truck indicated had the name Donovan Equip. Co. Inc., Londonderry, NH.
All Rockport firefighters left the scene at noon.
The road was closed again just before 1 p.m. for AutoMaster maneuvering.
