'Drawn to Creation: Two Views' exhibit explores the natural world
Event Date
Saturday, September 26, 2026 - 04:00 pm to 07:00 pmROCKPORT — Carol L. Douglas Studio and Richards Hill Gallery announce "Drawn to Creation: Two Views", a joint exhibition featuring award winning artists Carol L. Douglas and Naomi Aho. The opening reception takes place Saturday, Sept. 26, from 4 to 7 p.m., at 394 Commercial Street, in Rockport.
"Drawn to Creation: Two Views" explores the natural world through two contrasting mediums and viewpoints. The exhibition pairs Douglas’s fluid oil landscapes with Aho’s intricate colored and graphite pencil drawings. Where Douglas captures sweeping atmospheric light, Aho focuses on what she calls "intimate landscapes"—the quiet beauty of line, contour, and layered detail found through close observation.
"I love the line," says Aho, in a news release. "Sometimes I am stopped in my tracks by the beauty of a contour."
Aho is a Grand Prize winner in the International competition of the Colored Pencil Society of America; her work has appeared in Maine Home+Design and Pratique des Arts.
"While I appreciate majestic vistas on a grand scale, my joy is found in the smallest details," said Aho.
"Featuring Naomi’s work alongside my own is an honor," said gallery owner Carol L. Douglas. "Where my oil paintings capture the broader movement of a scene, Naomi’s drawings reveal extraordinary depth in nature's quietest moments.”
For both artists, this is an opportunity to honor and celebrate God’s creation, according to the news release.
The reception is free and open to the public. Both artists will be present.
