Donald W. Garrold, obituary
SEARSPORT — Donald W. Garrold, 94, of Searsport passed away in Rockland on 18 April 2026. Born on 27 October 1931 in Buffalo, New York to Louise and Oghyl Garrold, Don served with great pride in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman during the Korean Conflict.
On 18 July 1953 he married Faith Livingstone in Liberty, and the couple celebrated 72 years of marriage in 2025. The couple made their home and raised their family in Searsport on the shore of Penobscot Bay, which Donald always affectionately referred to as “The Riviera” because it reminded him of his time spent in the Mediterranean while in the Navy. He took great pride in running his own land surveying business for fifty years, surveying in every town in Waldo County. For five years, he served as Secretary of the Maine Society of Land Surveyors.
Throughout his life, he actively pursued civic engagement opportunities and proudly volunteered service to his community. He took great pride in helping others and often spoke of “paying forward” kindnesses he had received.
Don was predeceased by his sisters June and Shirley and their spouses.
Surviving is his loving wife, Faith Garrold; his son, Tim (Vicky) Garrold, and children Cessarina (James), Brianna, and Scott (Hillary); his daughter Janine (Peter) Laveway, and children, Lindsey and Kasey (Nathan); and his daughter Kathleen Garrold; great grandchildren, Solidea, Jack, and Charlie. He is also survived by his sister Diane; cousins Gary (Hilda) and Hans (Mary) Schmidt.
A private graveside service was held in Elmwood Cemetery in Searsport. A celebration of life is planned for 18 July 2026 on “The Riviera” at 4 Howard Street in Searsport. Memorial donations may be made to Boy Scout Troop 215 Searsport or to the Bangor Ronald McDonald House.
