Belmont man arrested for gross sexual assault
BELFAST — Acting on information Sept. 30 regarding suspicious activity between a 44-year-old man and juvenile female, Waldo County Sheriff’s Detective Merl Reed arrested Adam Cross of Belmont.
Cross has been charged with gross sexual assault, a class A crime.
According to the Sheriff’s Office in a press release, Reed received information about Cross allegedly acting in an “inappropriate manner with a young female in a public location.” The town that the offense allegedly occurred in has not yet been disclosed.
Reed was able to identify the juvenile and confirm her age as 11 years old. She is not related to Cross, said Reed, and when he spoke with her she disclosed she had been allegedly sexually abused.
Cross was subsequently arrested and is currently being held at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset on $10,000 cash or $50,000 surety (real estate) bail.
According to the Sherrif’s Office, Cross was convicted of multiple counts of gross sexual assault in 1998, for which he is currently listed on the Maine Sex Offender registry.
