Learn at UMC workshop explores “The Human Side of Communication: What AI Can’t Replace"
Event Date
Wednesday, April 08, 2026 - 09:00 am to 10:30 amUnited Midcoast Charities' next LEARN@UMC workshop will be “The Human Side of Communication: What AI Can’t Replace,” led by educator and community volunteer Stephen Moro. The workshop will be held Tuesday, April 8, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., at the UMC office in Camden.
"For nonprofits, the ability to communicate clearly and authentically is central to mission success," said UMC, in a news release. "Whether sharing impact stories, speaking with donors, engaging volunteers, or advocating for community needs, strong human communication builds trust and connection. As AI tools become more common in daily work, understanding how to pair those tools with genuine human presence can help organizations communicate their mission more effectively."
This workshop will help nonprofit staff and volunteers strengthen their voice, refine their message, and communicate their mission with confidence—skills that support fundraising, outreach, and everyday interactions.
Moro brings a wide-ranging background in communication, teaching, and public service. A retired member of the Camden Hills Regional High School English Department, he has spent decades helping people find clarity and confidence in their own voices. He currently serves as an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Maine at Augusta, Rockland Center, teaching humanities courses including Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, Debate, and Controversial Issues. He also teaches through UMA’s partnership with the Maine Department of Corrections at the Maine State Prison.
In addition to his academic work, Steve is a Registered Maine Guide (retired) and a volunteer at St. Bernard’s Soup Kitchen in Rockland. His commitment to service and community connection informs his approach to communication and his belief in the importance of human connection in an increasingly digital world.
Registration is now open. This workshop is free for current UMC grantee organizations and open to area nonprofits for a $20 fee. Space is limited. Please call 207-236-2299 or email admin@unitedmidcoastcharities.org to register.
