Anna Mudryk Carney, obituary
THOMASTON — Anna Mudryk Carney left this world on October 7, 2025, just one week shy of her 99th birthday.
Anna was born in the Bronx, New York on October 14, 1926. She was the 9th child of 13 siblings and the last to pass at the age of 98. She was a first generation American born to Polish/Ukrainian parents.
She began her work career at the Telephone Company in New York at the age of 16. She met and married Malcolm James Carney, a handsome Navy sailor in 1946. Together they made their home in Thomaston where they raised their three children. Anna continued working at the Telephone Company in Rockland until her retirement in 1988.
Anna was a great cook who enjoyed entertaining frequent family visitors from New York and she remained close to her many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews throughout her life.
Anna enjoyed shopping, almost daily, and going to lawn sales. She was known as ‘the lollypop lady’ in her neighborhood. Anna embroidered many pieces as gifts for friends and family and was known for her caricature sketches! We must not forget her great sense of humor and that she loved being at all the activities of her large family.
Anna was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm, and her daughter, Elizabeth Simms.
She is survived by her two sons, James Carney and his wife Ruth, Craig Carney and his wife Linda; her son-in-law, Jeffery Simms. She also leaves seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and counting; as well as many loving nieces and nephews that called and visited Anna until her passing.
Anna was lovingly cared for by her sons; her son-in-law, Jeffery; and especially her granddaughter Mallory. Because of them, she was able to stay comfortable in her home.
The family thanks Natalie Russell for her care of Anna in her last months. Also many thanks to friends and neighbors that visited, and to the staff at the Sussman house.
A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, November 7, 2025, at 11 a.m., at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 150 Broadway, Rockland. Private interment will be held at Village Cemetery, Thomaston.
