Merryspring launches interactive mapping app at Oct. 18 event
Merryspring Nature Center is launching a new interactive mapping application, which will help visitors explore Merryspring’s scenic trails and discover points of interest throughout the 66-acre preserve.
The mapping application is currently in soft launch at Merryspring, and it will formally launch with an event, Saturday, Oct. 18, at 10 a.m., at Merryspring. There will be a short presentation on the map development followed by an orientation and an opportunity for the public to explore Merryspring using the live maps which will be available for free on Merryspring’s website and compatible with both iOS and Android devices.
This innovative digital tool will provide users with multiple detailed maps of Merryspring’s trail network, gardens, and natural landmarks, offering real-time navigation and information about flora, fauna, and historical features. Whether hiking, birdwatching, or simply enjoying the outdoors, visitors will be able to access the map from their smartphones or tablets, making it easier than ever to plan their visit and learn about the environment around them.
“We’re thrilled to bring this technology to our community,” said Merryspring Program Director John Fromer.
Mapping application developer BJ Richardson added, “This app will not only improve accessibility and engagement for our guests but also support our mission of environmental education and stewardship.”
The application was developed by Richardson and Fromer over the past 18 months. Richardson is a 30-year veteran of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, where he served as a regional and national leader in computer mapping (Geographic Information Systems, or GIS). He is semi-retired and volunteered his services as a Merryspring member.
Merryspring Nature Center invites the public to stay tuned for ongoing updates.
