Sunday Tidbit: The Holy Spirit our Teacher

It was Easter Sunday, 1976. During a Church service, I had a life-changing spiritual experience. I received Jesus Christ into my heart as Lord and Savior. Following this, I was filled with the Holy Spirit and the Father’s love that transformed my life.

Upon returning home, I opened my Bible and began to read. The Scriptures spoke directly to my heart and mind, imparting divine understanding. The source of this enlightenment was the Holy Spirit, whom Jesus called “Spirit of Truth,” who would guide us into all truth (John 14:26 & 16:13). Like sunlight dispelling darkness, each ray of truth enlightened my inner being with the light of His life (John 6:63).

Jesus said the Holy Spirit will take His message, His character, His truth, and His divine nature—and reveal them to us.  Hearing the purity of the anointed truth brought clarity, which imparted a depth of understanding. His truth transforms our hearts to be like His. It is the power of His word that transforms us to be like Christ – the Word of God.

The Apostle Paul, in his epistle to the Ephesians, mentions that they have heard Him (the Lord) and have been taught by Him: “For the Truth is in Jesus.” (Eph. 4:21). It was common for the early Church to know His voice and be taught by Him. The leadership of their day placed a great emphasis on the Holy Spirit as their primary teacher. A major function of Church leadership was to minister in power through the anointing of the Holy Spirit. They also taught people to recognize Jesus' voice and to follow Him (John 10:27).

The Apostle John states that you have the anointing, the Holy Spirit who abides in you, and will teach you all things (1 John 2:27). What a powerful gift: the Holy Spirit, our teacher, is always present to lead us into Truth at any place at any time. Yes, we need leaders who are gifted teachers, who minister under the anointing. When the people are taught to know the voice of Jesus, they will hear His Words speaking to them.

Every born-again believer has received the presence and empowering work of the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit anoints our words, people hear His voice speaking to their hearts. The sick are healed, the bored walk, the blind see, and the oppressed are set free. To minister the Spirit, as Jesus did, we must be able to hear His voice and speak the words He gives us. The Holy Spirit will only anoint His Word, not ours.

The gift of the Holy Spirit is the light we have been given, like Jesus, to reveal not only the things of Christ, but His Father and His Kingdom, that we may be as He is – full of life, grace, and truth. It’s all about a living, dynamic relationship with the Father and His Son. To live the supernatural life —the way the Christian life was meant to be lived.
