Rockland to gauge interest from nearby select boards about potential future joint sessions
ROCKLAND – Rockland, Rockport, and Camden fire departments recently worked together on a home safety program. If the fire departments can team up, why not municipalities?
Select Board members from surrounding towns recently attended a Rockland Zoom meeting, Feb. 23, regarding a now-defunct Summit Gas application. One unintentional result of the meeting was a sensation of multi-municipality cooperation that Rockland now aims to continue with other regional issues.
“We don’t live in a silo, as they say,” said Mayor Ed Glaser, during the March 9 Council meeting. “We are a part of a community of other towns that are around us.”
Rockland’s City Manager, Tom Luttrell, will be reaching out to the neighboring towns in order to gauge interest in repeating joint meetings in the future on other issues as they arise, such as energy. Luttrell is hoping to get something in place before budget season starts in April.
