Fire quickly engulfs home in Rockport

ROCKPORT – Approximately 30 firefighters from multiple Midcoast fire departments responded to a house fire on Tuesday afternoon, May 13, at 325 West Street in Rockport.
Rockport Fire Chief Jason Peasley said that when firefighters arrived at the house after the call was received at about noon, it was fully engulfed in flames.
Peasley confirmed that the house was clear when the fire began, including pets, when Rockport arrived at the scene.
Firefighters from Rockport, Camden, Hope, Union and Rockland responded to the fire. Peasley had to send the Rockland first responders to a Route 1 motor vehicle crash that occured just after firefighters were on scene at the Route 90 house fire.
That Route 1 crash occured near Fresh Off the Farm.
The cause of the fire is not known and Peasley confirmed that the Maine State Fire Marshal’s office will be conducting the investigation.
A portion of Route 90 was closed from Meadow Street near the Rockport Diner to the area near Seacoast Security and reopened to traffic by 1:30 p.m.
The house is owned by Andrea R. Annis, according to the Rockport Town Assessor’s Office.
