Wednesday Waldo Walk goes to Agnew Tract, May 14
KNOX — Coastal Mountains Land Trust (CMLT) invites the public to another Wednesday Waldo Walk. Each month, CMLT volunteer and Waldo County resident Bindy Pendleton leads hikes exploring a variety of intriguing trail systems. This hike will take place at the Agnew Tract in the town of Knox on May 14, at 9:30 a.m. Special guest Barbara Egan, a naturalist with the Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition, will be joining the walk to share her knowledge of the area.
The Agnew Tract is one of Coastal Mountains’ wilder parcels of land and is traversed more frequently by an abundance of wildlife than it is by humans. Some of the tract’s special features include a pond with beavers and a diversity of bird species as well as several varieties of frogs and other amphibians.
The trail is fairly short, under a mile, and takes hikers up a rise over the pond, then travels alongside the water. Bring your binoculars if you have them as well as tick and insect repellent.
*Pre-registration and ride sharing is recommended as the pond is located on a dead-end dirt road with limited parking spaces. We will meet at the Marsh Preserve parking lot off route 137 by 9:30 a.m. to caravan to the pond.
If you want to join the ride share from Belfast, be at Reny’s parking lot (in Belfast) by 9:00 a.m. Call Bindy, at 207-323-0817 for ride-sharing information.
