Rockland Police Department hires new patrol officer

    ROCKLAND — Daniel DuHamel has been hired as Rockland’s new patrol officer, according to a news release on the department’s Facebook page Feb. 11.

    DuHamel earned a bachelor’s degree in administration of justice from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. After college, he began his career in law enforcement in January 1995 in Illinois.

    The officer completed a 10-week police academy in Illinois and retired from the Quincy, Illinois police department after 21 1/2 years of service with the final rank of Patrol Lieutenant.

    While working in Illinois, DuHamel spent seven years as a detective and 10 years as a patrol sergeant, with the final two years being spent as a patrol lieutenant.

    After retiring from Illinois, DuHamel worked for the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office in Beaufort, S.C., from June 2016 to December 2020. During his tour with Beaufort County, DuHamel spent his last three years working as a homicide detective for BCSO, with the last two years as a detective sergeant. He also completed a six-week police academy while working in South Carolina.

    “DuHamel is excited to work for the citizens of Rockland and is looking forward to meeting everyone at the next Lobster Festival,” the department said on its Facebook page.
