Watts Hall Community Players present musical comedy 'The Drowsy Chaperone'
Watts Hall Community Players presents The Drowsy Chaperone, "a Tony Award-winning musical comedy that brings the golden age of Broadway to life in a delightful, madcap romp that’s perfect for the whole family," said Watts Hall Community Players, in a news release.
Featuring a cast of local performers of all ages, The Drowsy Chaperone opens with the endearing "Man in the Chair," who puts on his favorite 1928 cast album—and suddenly, the musical springs to life in his living room.
"What follows is a hilarious whirlwind of mistaken identities, sabotage, gangsters perfecting their pastry puns, and a Latin lothario," said Players.
Leading the cast are AnnMarie Lowerre as Broadway bride Janet Van de Graaff, Jack Sullivan as her rollerskating fiancé Robert, Jo Lindsay as the inebriated chaperone herself, and James Cook as the Man in the Chair. The show also features many other familiar faces as well as a vibrant ensemble portraying everything from chorus girls to clouds.
Originally conceived as a wedding gag, The Drowsy Chaperone developed a life of its own—eventually taking Broadway by storm in 2006 and winning five Tony Awards.
