Waterfall Arts welcomes Ellery Chalmers as Youth Program Manager
BELFAST — Waterfall Arts announces the appointment of Ellery Chalmers as Youth Program Manager. A visual artist and educator with deep roots in the Midcoast, Chalmers brings her lifelong experience rooted in community-based arts education and a strong commitment to expanding creative opportunities for young people, according to Waterfall Arts, in a news release. From early experiences in painting, drawing, theater, ceramics, photography, and film, to formative studies at the Cambridge School of Weston and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, her artistic journey has been shaped by both creative exploration and a strong foundation in social justice.
After returning to Maine, she reconnected with the local arts community through teaching, vocational education, and hands-on apprenticeships, including receiving the Mary Lacy Women’s Scholarship for boatbuilding at the Apprenticeshop in Rockland. Chalmers served as the K–6 Visual Arts Teacher at Friendship Village School and has worked as a teaching artist with the Center for Maine Contemporary Art (CMCA) ArtLab and RSU13 Adult Education. Her work centers on inclusive programming and supporting students who may not thrive in traditional educational settings.
“I grew up in the Midcoast surrounded by artists, educators, and community arts programs that changed the course of my life,” said Chalmers. “I’m honored to join Waterfall Arts and excited to help create inclusive, engaging opportunities that connect young people with Maine’s vibrant artist community.”
Amy Tingle, program director at Waterfall Arts, welcomed Chalmers to the organization:
“Ellery’s joyful, steady presence and deep community connections make her exceptionally well-positioned to expand our youth programming," said Tingle. "She brings a huge heart to this role and a strong commitment to ensuring that as many young people as possible can experience the transformative power of art.”
Chalmers will focus on expanding youth programs, strengthening community partnerships, and increasing accessibility for young artists in Belfast and throughout the region.
The public is invited to meet Ellery at the upcoming opening reception for the 10th annual Young Artist Gallery Art Take Over on Friday, March 6, from 4-7 p.m.
"Learn more about upcoming youth programs at Waterfall Arts and celebrate a vibrant showcase of artwork created by Waldo County’s next generation of artists," said the news release.
