Jane Haskell discusses 'Booklarking: Expected and Unexpected Genealogy Treasures'
Event Date
Wednesday, February 18, 2026 - 02:00 pmBELFAST — Join the Belfast Free Library and the Wawenoc Chapter of the Maine Genealogical Society on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m., in the Abbott Room of the Belfast Free Library, for a discussion led by genealogist Jane Haskell called “Booklarking: Expected and Unexpected Genealogy Treasures.”
A booklark is the finder of forgotten objects hidden inside books, according to the Library, in a news release. In the 1960s, Jane Haskell looked inside her mother's 1910 Register of the Towns of Sedgwick, Brooklin, Deer Isle, Stonington and Isle au Haut to see if her grandparents were included. All were listed as "pl" for pupil.
"Even more interesting, however, were the pieces of paper tucked between those pages and notations," said the Library.
Join this discussion to hear how the "larks" can bring the past to present by seeing and reading what ancestors tucked into their books.
This event is free and open to the public. It is an in-person event, with a Zoom option available. Please email spietryka@belfastlibrary.org to request the link.
The Wawenoc Chapter is the Belfast area’s chapter of the Maine Genealogical Society. It meets monthly on the third Wednesday at the Belfast Free Library. Genealogists of all abilities and skill-levels are encouraged to join.
