If you use TikTok to promote your books, listen up!
TikTok's new U.S. ownership comes with new rules for promoters of products on their app.
They are now insisting on strict disclosure of all commercial content, including self-promotions, using the "Disclose commercial content" toggle. To not follow these rules could get your account banned.
Here are some pro-tips:
- Before publishing, go to the top of the screen. On the right hand side, there will be a little circular settings button. Scroll down until you see "Content Disclosure." Click on the arrow so that it advances to the next screen. Toggle on "Disclose commercial content" setting.
- Clearly identify the product or service verbally and in text, not just in a link.
- Do not re-upload the same video or use excessive, low-value AI-generated audio/voiceovers in promotions.
