Joshua E. Barshinger, obituary
Joshua Barshinger, 35, passed away unexpectedly on January 13, 2026. A devoted husband, proud father, loyal son, loving brother, and true friend, Josh lived his life with heart, humor, and an unmistakable passion for the outdoors.
Josh was a family man through and through. He was the loving husband of Heather and the proud father of Sophia (Sophie), Scarlett, and Maverick—his greatest accomplishments and his favorite audience for stories, jokes, and lessons about life. Whether teaching his children, teasing them with his quick wit, or simply being present, Josh made sure they always knew how deeply they were loved.
Josh’s life was shaped early on by the outdoors. As a Boy Scout, enrolled at a young age, he learned skills and values that only strengthened his lifelong love for nature and outdoor recreation.
An Army veteran, Josh served his country with honor and carried that same sense of duty, strength, and integrity into his everyday life. He felt most at peace hunting, fishing, or spending time at his homemade range. If there was fresh air, a good laugh, and the people he loved nearby, Josh was exactly where he wanted to be.
A lifelong student, Josh enrolled in gunsmithing classes to expand his already extensive knowledge of firearms. This passion was shared with his father, Ron, who helped cultivate Josh’s love for guns from a young age.
Known for his caring nature and quick sense of humor, Josh had the rare ability to make people laugh even on their worst days. He was the kind of man who showed up without being asked, helped without expecting anything in return, and loved without condition.
Josh was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel, just five short months before him.
He is survived by his wife, Heather; his children, Sophia, Scarlett, and Maverick; and his parents, Chris and Ron, who raised a man they were endlessly proud of.
He will also be deeply missed by extended family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though his time here was far too short, Joshua Barshinger leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, service, and unforgettable memories. His spirit lives on in his family, in the outdoors he cherished, and in the hearts of all who loved him.
Friends are welcome to join the family for a gathering to celebrate Josh’s life on January 30, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main Street, Waldoboro. Burial will be in the VA Cemetery in Augusta in the spring.
