The YMCA is seeking a Health & Wellness Director to lead dynamic, inclusive health and wellness programs in alignment with our mission to support the well-being of individuals and families across our region. This full-time leadership role provides strategic and operational oversight for wellness offerings across both our Rockport and Rockland branches, ensuring programs are inclusive, high-quality, and responsive to the evolving needs of our members. The Director will guide a team of instructors and trainers, manage program design and evaluation, and work across departments to maintain welcoming, safe, and effective wellness environments. We’re looking for a thoughtful and mission-driven leader who brings a balance of strategic vision, operational discipline, and people-first leadership to their work. This role requires someone equally comfortable setting direction and jumping in to support day-to-day operations. What You'll Do: Lead the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of health and wellness programs for all ages and abilities Supervise, support, and develop a team of staff and volunteers who reflect the Y’s values and serve with purpose Ensure high standards of safety, cleanliness, and member experience in all wellness facilities Manage department budget, payroll, scheduling, and registration systems (Daxko) with accuracy and efficiency Collaborate across departments and serve as a key point of contact for the Rockland Harbor branch Promote member engagement, respond to inquiries and concerns, and support special events and initiatives Why Join Us? Requirements ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Health & Wellness Program Leadership Provide strategic leadership and vision for a comprehensive array of health and wellness programs that serve individuals of all ages and abilities in alignment with community needs and organizational goals. Develop, implement, and continuously improve wellness offerings based on data analysis, member feedback, and emerging health trends to ensure high-quality, mission-aligned programs with strong participation. Supervise and support health and wellness staff; availability to cover classes as needed during instructor absence to maintain program continuity and quality. Monitor class attendance and ensure compliance with registration and payment procedures, reinforcing program integrity and accessibility. Oversee timely and accurate entry of all wellness programs into Daxko, ensuring clarity for members and consistency with current budgeted pricing. Member & Community Engagement Serve as a responsive and solutions-oriented point of contact for member and community inquiries, ensuring a high level of satisfaction and engagement. Foster a welcoming, supportive environment by building authentic relationships with members and connecting them with programs that align with their wellness goals. Support development efforts by connecting members with in-kind and other donation opportunities, as appropriate. Provides leadership and support to annual YMCA special events, such as Thanksgiving Turkey Trot, open houses, and other special events. Department Operations In partnership with facilities and fitness staff, ensure that wellness spaces and equipment in both branches are safe, clean, and well-maintained, following all YMCA health and safety standards and policies. Manage daily operations and emergency response procedures, including after-hours monitoring and prompt incident reporting. Oversee and coordinate parts & supplies purchasing, equipment repairs, and maintenance as needed. Leadership & Administration Recruit, train, supervise, and inspire a high-performing team of instructors, trainers, and volunteers who embody the Y’s values and purpose. Lead department meetings, conduct performance evaluations, and manage scheduling and payroll processes. Develop and monitor the department budget, taking action to maintain financial sustainability. Participate in cross-functional collaboration, professional development, and management meetings to support organizational goals. Coordinate interoffice mail, post, and deposits between Rockland and Rockport branches. Engage in continuous self-development through reading, research, conferences, and/or training. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in exercise sports science or health-related field required OR other Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience in a closely related field. Group Fitness Certification through a nationally recognized and/or accredited organization (YMCA of the USA, ACE, AFAA, ACSM, etc.) Excellent working knowledge of Daxko and YMCA membership procedures. Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED; and class-specific certifications for teaching group classes. Excellent communication skills and ability to work exceptionally well with a team. Ability to respond to emergent situations. At least one year of supervisory experience preferred. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people.
