An institution caring for 60 visually impaired children in Kyiv welcomes the arrival of a generator. With electricity outages lasting 10 hours or more, this generator will help keep the building warm and provide at least minimal comfort and safety for young children during difficult times.

The Camden Rotary Club has donated $10,000 to a Rotary program providing generators to residents of Kyiv, Ukraine, where Russia’s destruction of the country’s power infrastructure has left three million people mostly without power and water this winter.

The program, led by a coalition of Canadian and Ukrainian Rotary clubs, is collecting funds from Rotary clubs in Canada, the U.S., and Mexico to provide relief to the people of Kyiv.

“This donation to the Ukrainian generator project will provide much-needed support for families and daycare centers,” said Peter Chabursky, chair of the Rotary Intercountry Committee Canada-Ukraine, which is collecting funds from Canada, the U.S., and Mexico to purchase and distribute in Kyiv through the Kyiv-Balzac Rotary Club. The generators cost between $480 and $2,500 each in U.S. dollars.

“We are happy to support the Ukrainians with portable generators,” said Camden Rotary Club President Bruce Cole, “and we are inviting voluntary donations from individual Rotarians and members of the public who seek a tangible way to help the people of Kyiv.”

To donate to the Ukraine generator project, please write a check made out to the Camden Rotary Club Foundation. You can mail your check to the Camden Rotary Club, PO Box 602, Camden, ME 04843, or bring it to a Tuesday noon club meeting at First Congregational Church in Camden by Tuesday, March 3. Every penny donated will go directly to this relief effort.
