UPDATE: Motorcyclist injured after being struck by car in Rockland
UPDATE: Sept. 26, 2024. David T. Roscoe, the motorcyclist struck by a car on Park Street (Route 1) in Rockland on Sept. 4, 2024, has died from his injuries.
ROCKLAND — A motorcycle rider was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center, Wednesday evening after a two-vehicle crash on Park Street, in Rockland.
Knox Regional Communications Center began alerting local fire, EMS, and police to the crash at approximately 5:55 p.m., Sept. 4, 2024, sending all agencies to the entrance to Park Street Car Wash. Rockland Fire and EMS called in extra help from their department as they tended to the motorcyclist, evaluated the two occupants of the car (who denied injuries), and assessed the vehicles for any potential hazards. Meanwhile, the section of Park Street between Broadway and Highland Avenue was closed to traffic, courtesy of a police officer on the Broadway side, and parked authorized vehicles blocking the other side. More police officers gathered eye witness statements and put in calls informing the District Attorney’s Office and crash reconstructionists, as protocol dictates. Knox County Sheriff’s deputies who were in the area brought over a box kit and helped spray paint some markings in case further analysis is needed.
Camden Exxon hauled away both vehicles at once, and the street was reopened to traffic at approximately 6:55 p.m.
On Thursday, Sept. 5, Rockland Police posted to its Facebook page the following:
It was determined the operator of the vehicle failed to yield, turning in front of the oncoming motorcycle. The operator of motorcycle was transported to Maine Medical Center for life threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle was summonsed for the violation.
