Union Historical Society announces 2026 Come Spring Bus Tour
UNION — Union Historical Society’s Come Spring Bus Tour will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, at 9 a.m., from the Old Town House, 128 Town House Road (Route 235) in Union.
The narrated tour follows the Georges River Scenic Byway and highlights places where Union’s early settlers built cabins and lived in the late 1700s. The settlers’ names are documented in Union town records, while their lives and stories are recounted in Ben Ames Williams’ 1940 historical novel, Come Spring. Stops include marked settlers’ gravesites in the Common Cemetery on Ayer Hill; the cellar hole of the cabin where Philip Robbins’ large family spent a crowded winter in 1776; and the homestead of Robbins’ oldest son, David. After a brief ride over Clarry Hill, the tour concludes at “The Royal Mess,” home of the three bachelors Joel, Jason and Matt.
The roughly three-hour tour will take place rain or shine.
Tickets are $18 per person and $12 for students. To purchase tickets, call the Union Historical Society at 207-785-5444. Staff are usually available at the Robbins House on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon. If there is no answer, please leave a message. Reservations are confirmed when payment is received.
"The event usually sells out, so early ticket purchases are encouraged," said a news release.
