ROCKPORT — Rockport police are investigating the recent theft of four tires and wheels stolen from a pickup truck while it was parked in a commercial parking lot on Route 1 (Commercial Street), in Glen Cove.

The theft occurred at the former Walker’s Restaurant parking lot sometime later on Sunday, March 7, or during the early morning hours of the following day, according to Detective Sgt. Curt Andrick.

The theft was reported to police at around 8 a.m. on March 8.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the pickup truck propped up with wood blocks with the four tires and wheels stripped.

Russell Collett, DDS, of Camden, is the owner of the pickup truck and the vacant building that is currently for sale. He said the vehicle was parked on the side of the building and was occasionally used for snow plowing.

Collett said that the parking lot is well-lit after dark.

A co-worker of Collett saw the stripped vehicle, which was visible from Route 1, while she was driving to work the morning of March 8.

Collett confirmed that the truck is a white 2001 Ford 350 turbo diesel model. While the truck is an older vehicle, the tires and wheels were almost brand new. He estimates the value of both at $1,600.

“The theft is still under investigation at this point,” Police Chief Randy Gagne said.
