Summer Field Day series heads to Etna to focus on Christmas trees
ETNA — University of Maine Cooperative Extension is hosting a Summer Field Day focused on integrated disease and weed management for Christmas trees on Friday, June 26, from 12 noon to 3:30 p.m., at Red Barn Christmas Tree Farm, 27 Center Lane in Etna.
Participants will learn how to apply crop protectants by using directed sprayers safely and efficiently. Presenters will share an update on emergent best management practices for reducing tree loss caused by Phytophthora root rot in Christmas tree production.
UMaine Extension Ornamental Horticulture Specialist Manjot Sidhu will discuss the considerations for establishing a Christmas tree plantation from an integrated weed management perspective and provide an update on problem weeds in Maine Christmas tree plantations.
Participants can earn 3 pesticide applicator recertification credits.
