Richard E. Weaver, obituary
ST. GEORGE — Richard E. “Dickie” Weaver, 81, died unexpectedly on Feb. 21, 2017, at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport of natural causes.
Born in Thomaston on Sept. 15, 1935, he was the son of Roy and Letitia Lurvey Weaver. While growing up in Thomaston, he attended local schools.
On Jan. 27, 1973, he married Astrid E. Peterson.
In the early years of his career, Dickie worked as a cook aboard various scallop boats out of New Bedford, Mass. During that same time, he often worked using his talents as a fine carpenter. He spent the rest of his career building and working on many homes in the local area. He could often be found working in his shop or on his own home. He also enjoyed keeping flower gardens and feeding the birds around his home.
Dickie enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved family gatherings with all the children around and was known as a good cook. One family member recalled the wonderful lobster pizza he made. His family described Dickie as a wonderful, devoted husband and family man who loved his in-laws like his own family. They said he was willing to help anyone in need and that he was always a jokester. Whenever parting company with anyone, Dickie could be heard saying, "See you Monday."
In addition to his parents, Dickie was predeceased by his in-laws, Bjarne and Ina Peterson; three brothers, Roland Weaver, Jimmy Weaver and Galen Weaver; a sister, Hazel Thomas; two brothers-in-law Bruno Peterson and Wendell Reed; as well as two special nephews, Jimmy Weaver and Danny O'Brien, who he loved with all his heart.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Astrid Weaver of St. George; his nieces and nephews, who were his special caring family, including Melodey Weaver and her companion, Jim Crochere, Wyatt Weaver and his daughter, Madelynne, Ariel Weaver and her companion, Niles Hill, and their daughter, Keanna Hill, and special nephew Galen "BoBo" Weaver; his son, Bruce A. Weaver and his companion, Michele Burnham, of East Waterboro; his daughters, Darice Weaver of Waterville, and Theresa and her husband, Thomas Wade, of Rockport; his siblings and their spouses, Mickey and Teet Weaver of Camden, Katherine Weymouth of St. George, Ruthie Hilt of Union, Priscilla Dugas of Spruce Head, Linda and Larry Taylor of Florida, Clifton and Ragna Weaver of St. George, and Betty Small of Warren; his grandchildren, Troy and his companion, Stephanie, Jessica, Stephanie, Sara, Isaac and Mary, Rachel, Benjamin and Olivia, Esther, Samuel and Sabina, Joshua and Tammy, and Megan; his great-grandchildren, Isabella, Amelia, Cyrus, Ian, Jack, Owen, Finn, Hannah, Tobius, Elisha, Taylor, Camden, Lily, Hunter, Noah, Carter, Damian, Chase and Alexis; his in-laws, Dagmar Robbins, Lily Beckett, Clara Reed, and Ingrid and Peter O'Brien; as well as many other nieces and nephews. Dickie was truly loved by all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to visit Monday, Feb. 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland, where a celebration of Dickie's life will be held Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Wayne Sawyer will officiate. Spring interment will be in North Parish Cemetery at Wiley's Corner in St. George.
