Restaurant proposed for former Rockland meat market
ROCKLAND — The former Wiggins’ Meat Market may once again see food passing through the doors if efforts to convert it to a restaurant are successful.
Entrepreneurs Derek Richards and Seth and Rickie Fainkujen are asking for permission to turn the 148 South Main Street building into a 32-seat coffee shop, Grazie Grazie, with few alterations to the existing structure or property.
The structure takes up 1,756 sq ft, within a parcel size of approximately 39,708 sq ft. (around a quarter acre). There is space in the parking lot for 11 vehicles. The number of off-street parking spaces required is 8+, with a prediction of 1 vehicle per 4 seats, plus one vehicle per employee.
Estimated completion date is April 2025, and estimated renovation costs are listed at $65,000. Chuck Campbell is the architect.
The project will be presented to Rockland Planning Board on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025. The Grazie proposal is the first on the agenda for the meeting, which begins at 5:15 p.m., in City Council Chambers.
