Penobscot Bay Singers 2026 Spring Concert celebrates America, regional music

Friday, June 12, 2026 - 07:00 pmIn commemoration of the country’s 250th Anniversary, The Penobscot Bay Singers will present a celebration of American and regional music for their 2026 Spring Concert, “The Road Not Taken,” in three performances.
Concerts will be held in the following locations:
-Friday, June 12, at 7 p.m., at the First Church UCC, Belfast
-Saturday, June 13, at 7 p.m., at the First Congregational Church in Searsport
-Wednesday, June 17, at 7 p.m., at the First Congregational Church in Camden.
Especially featured on the program will be “Frostiana,” a collection of poems by Robert Frost, United States Poet Laureate of 1958, set as a large-scale choral work composed by Randall Thompson. Pianist Ruth Gellsinger from Belfast will accompany the Singers for this set of pieces, according to the Singers, in a news release. The concert will also include uplifting works by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Irving Berlin, Morten Lauridsen, Leonard Bernstein, and a sea shanty arranged by Maine’s own music educator and composer Gladys Pitcher. As has become the custom for Penobscot Bay Singers Spring Concerts, there will be special solo performances as well, including a work for cello performed by Kay Allen from Rockland.
The Penobscot Bay Singers are directed by Sierra Lary and accompanied by joani mitchell. After joining the Singers as Assistant Director in the spring of 2025, Lary assumed the position of Artistic Director for the 2025-2026 season. Accompanist joani mitchell has played the keyboards for several local choirs and musical theater groups.
"Penobscot Bay Singers now has a fresh, new approach to making music that is exciting, invigorating, and brings out everyone’s musical best," said Singers.
