Patricia Daley Snow, obituary
OWLS HEAD — Patricia Daley Snow died Monday, December 15, 2025 at her home. Born Patricia Hallock Daley in New York City, New York, January 17, 1931, she was the daughter of Wilfred Thomas Daley and Mildred Hallock Daley. Her father, Wilfred, worked in finance, but when he became ill, he and his wife, with baby Patricia, moved to Augusta, Maine to live with Mildred’s parents, Dr. George Russell Campbell and Liliian Hallock Campbell.
Pat had a happy life in Augusta. She had an early affinity for dogs – many of her childhood photos show her carrying or leading a dog. Her grandparents, the Campbells, had a summer cottage at Crescent Beach in Owls Head, and Pat spent most of her summers there.
After high school Pat attended Endicott Junior College for one year, in Beverly, Massachusetts. She married John (Jack) Forrest Snow from Middletown, Connecticut, the following summer. Jack’s father, Charles Wilbert Snow, was from Spruce Head and their family spent summers in their cottage on Spruce Head Island. Patricia met Jack while she was working at the Spruce Head Inn.
The couple lived in Los Angeles, California, where Jack graduated from UCLA and Pat took courses in English.
They eventually settled in South Thomaston, Maine where they had their third and fourth and then fifth child. Pat took courses towards her degree at the University of Maine in Augusta. Jack worked at the cement plant and then started lobstering.
When their youngest child was 8 years old, Pat and Jack decided to move to Middletown, Connecticut and live with Jack’s parents so that Jack could get a Master’s Degree in Teaching. While he did this Patricia found work at Wesleyan University as an assistant librarian for many years and then as a secretary. She continued to work towards her own degree from the University of Maine by taking classes at Wesleyan.
While Jack started teaching in Middletown, Connecticut, after getting her own degree Patricia moved back to South Thomaston ahead of Jack, living in their old house and teaching at South School in Rockland. Patricia then spent many years teaching at Gilford Butler School in South Thomaston. Jack took early retirement from teaching and joined her in South Thomaston.
After some time, Patricia and Jack separated and Patricia moved to her family’s cottage in Owls Head, where she resided until her death. She met Eugene Scalzo doing shifts as a working member of the Good Tern Coop in Rockland. They became partners in a long-term relationship, sharing a love for gardening, camping, jazz, literature (and dogs).
Patricia was steadfast in her commitment to providing quality education to the young people in her community.
After obtaining her Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Maine, she served as a school principal at Gilford Butler School for some years before her retirement in June of 2010.
Pat served many years on the board of the Rockland District Nursing Association (RDNA). She saw their goal of bringing affordable care to all people at home as an essential responsibility of a community. As a well-loved member of the RDNA family, Pat played a vital role in helping to bring the agency into today’s world.
She was baptized into the Roman Catholic Church, but became an Episcopalian a few years after her marriage. She was a dedicated member of St Peter’s Episcopal Church in Rockland, Maine the rest of her life.
Patricia leaves her long-term partner, Eugene Scalzo, of Lubec, Maine; her five children: Stephen Lyle Snow of Spruce Head, Maine, Patricia Jeanette Snow of New Haven, Connecticut, Rebecca Dale Snow of Istanbul, Turkey, John Forrest Snow, Jr. of South Thomaston, Maine with his wife Robin Snow, and Rachel Campbell Snow of South Thomaston, Maine. She also leaves seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
