'Ordinary People, Extraordinary Lives' genealogy presentation in Belfast

Wednesday, June 17, 2026 - 02:00 pmJoin the Belfast Free Library and the Wawenoc Chapter of the Maine Genealogical Society on Wednesday, June 17, at 2 p.m., in the Abbott Room of the Belfast Free Library, for a genealogy presentation called “Ordinary People, Extraordinary Lives.”
Local genealogist and author Dana Murch will present a program chronicling 200 years of the Murch Family in Belfast. The program will include stories about the Mayflower, the War of 1812, pump and block-making, lawyers and judges, postmasters, Gettysburg, poetry, ice-making, hydro-electric power generation, shoe shops, the Pygmy Circus, and World War II – along with a generous dose of Belfast history, according to the Library, in a news release.

The Wawenoc Chapter is the Belfast area’s chapter of the Maine Genealogical Society. It meets monthly on the third Wednesday at the Belfast Free Library. Genealogists of all abilities and skill-levels are encouraged to join.
