Oceanside baseball remains winless after extra inning heart-breaker

ROCKLAND — After a late seventh inning rally, the Oceanside varsity baseball had its first win of the season in its sight as its Monday, April 29 game against Morse went to extra innings. 

In the top of the eighth inning, however, visiting Morse collected three runs and then prevented the hosts from scoring in the bottom of the frame. 

Thus, the Oceanside baseball team remained winless with five losses on the season after the 10-7 defeat at the hands of Morse. 

Morse plated three runs in the opening inning, two runs in each the fifth and sixth innings and three in the eighth inning. 

Oceanside tallied a run in each of the firs two innings and five in the seventh frame. 

Morse collected 10 hits, while Oceanside collected eight hits. 

Both Morse and Oceanside committed four errors. 

Morse left nine runners on base during the game, while Oceanside left 10 stranded. 

Repeat hitters for Morse were Ty Knowlton (double, two-run home run) and Austin Magliozzi (three singles). Jackson Walker contributed a double for the Morse offense. 

Knowlton snapped the tie in the eighth inning with his two-run home run. 

Repeat hitters for Oceanside were Jonah Carlson (two singles) and Austin Pagano (two singles, RBI). Uriah Thongsphaphone ripped a home run and collected a RBI for the Mariners and Nathan Coombs contributed a two-run single. Maguire LeBlanc tallied a RBI. 

The Mariners will now seek its first win of the season when it travels to Medomak Valley on Tuesday, April 30 for a game that was postponed from Friday, April 26.
