No Kings demonstration and rally scheduled for Rockland, June 14
The Knox County Democratic Committee (KCDC) has organized a No Kings Midcoast Maine demonstration rally to take place June 14 in Rockland, at Harbor Park, 10 a.m. to noon. Immediately following that, The group The Audacity will hold a No Kings! Demonstration for Democracy at Chapman Park, just up the hill from Harbor Park.
The rally and demonstration will join with the nationwide No Kings events to be held in communities across America as a counterpoint to the planned military parade scheduled that day to honor President Donald Trump’s birthday.
The KCDC rally will lead with a group of speakers, including Maine Democratic Committee Chair Charlie Dingman, elected Maine legislators from across Knox County, and others. Confirmed speakers include Charlie Dingman, Chair, Maine Democratic Party; Angus King III, candidate for governor; Maine Senator Pinny Beebe-Center; State Representatives Valli Geiger, Ann Matlack and Mike Ray; Scout Bookham, Senior, Oceanside High School; and Dash Marley, Chair, Knox County Democratic Committee.
Jim Gibson and Louisa Stancioff will play music. Everyone is encouraged to carry creative signs with messages reflecting their concerns and hopes for the preservation of democracy and the rule of law, according to a news release from the KCDC.
At noon, the public will be invited to join the weekly Audacity CAT nonviolent event at Chapman Park. The Audacity holds weekly nonviolent protests in Chapman Park (corner of Park and Main streets), followed by a march around the block.
"While our President is throwing himself a multi-million dollar birthday party at taxpayer expense, complete with the kind of military parade that Soviet, North Korean, and German dictators like to see, we will show the world what real democracy looks like," The Audacity said, at its website. "All patriots who believe in inclusive, active, grassroots democracy are welcome."
The Knox County Democratic Committee promotes the ideals and principles of the Democratic Party; encourages and maintains participation and unity of enrolled voters and potential candidates in Knox County; provides leadership to, and coordination with, Municipal Committees, the Maine Democratic State Committee and the Democratic National Committee; and supports the nominees elected in the State Democratic Primary and their election to office.
