Medomak Valley High School Girls Soccer teams make strong start to season
Medomak Valley High School Girls Soccer Varsity Team traveled to Winslow Saturday, Aug 6, for its season opener game.
It was a warm, muggy day, reported Assistant Junior Varsity Coach Andrea Williamson, with the players starting slow in the first half of the game. But, they made up for it in the second half.
Winslow took an early lead 1 to 0 at the 31:35 minute mark in the first half. The goal was scored by Davanee Kimball, unassisted and the first half of the game ended with Winlsow in front.
"The second half was a much better story for Medomak," said Williamson. "Scarlett Flint scored at the 38:33 minute mark off a through ball pass from Haylee Chandler where Flint dribbled in and scored tying the game 1 to 1. About two minutes later, Flint scored again off a corner from Chandler giving Medomak the lead 2 to 1."
Medomak's defenses continued to battle and kept the ball in Winslow's end. Flint was able to complete her hat trick with her final goal with 9:14 remaining on the clock with an assist from Chander, giving Medomak the win 3 to 1.
Medomak had 8 shots in the first half and 13 in the second and Winslow's goalie Isabella Loubier had 6 saves in the first half, and 10 in the second half.
"She had an amazing game," said Williamson. "Winlsow had 8 shots in the first half and 3 in the second."
Chloe Fox, MVHS goalie, had 6 saves in the first half and 2 in the second.
MVHS had 6 total corners while Winslow had 5. MVHS had one direct kick while Winslow had 8.
Medomak Valley High School Girls' Junior Varsity Team played Winslow at home Sept. 5, with a final tie of 8 to 8.
MVHS has no goalie so all the teammates are taking a turn this season.
"What great sports they all are," said JV Coach Andrea Williamson, in a post-game report.
"Medomak started out strong and scored the first goal of the game at the 26:37 mark," she reported. "Haddee Brown sprinted to get a long pass from Eva Vannoy, and was able to place the ball low and away, giving Medomak the lead. This was the lone goal the entire game, Medomak was able to keep this lead and win the game."
Medomak had different players in goal and all made a minimum of one save.
"Wayy to go, girls," said Williamson. "This is a hard position to play. Winslow's goalie Emma Duplessie had five saves. It was a great way to start the season."
