Medomak girls middle school soccer shuts out Wiscasset

WISCASSET — The Medomak and Wiscassett middle school girls soccer teams hit a muddy soccer pitch in Wiscasset on Wednesday, Oct. 3 with the visiting Riverhawks emerging victorious 7-0. 

The Riverhawks will hit the road Friday, Oct. 5 to challenge Great Salt Bay at 3:45 p.m.

Medomak opened the scoring five minutes into the contest when Jordan Doughty scored off a deflected ball of the goalie after Olivia Pelkey had shot the ball. 

Eliza Luce was able to score 10 minutes later, followed by Cindy Shelmerdine scoring seven minutes later to give Medomak a 3-0 advantage into the halftime pause. 

Alyssa Grindle opened second half scoring seven minutes into the frame, followed by Luce finding the back of the net for a second time 20 minutes later. 

Two minutes later, Rachel Readinger extended the Medomak advantage to 6-0. 

With 35 seconds remaining in the contest, Madison Merrifield scored Medomak’s seventh goal. 

The Shelmerdine and Merrifield goals were their respective first ever goals as a Riverhawk. 

“Great defense was played by Ryleigh Rainey, Devon Rainey, Cindy Sherlmerdine, Madison Boynton, and Kendra Gladu,” said Medomak coach Andrea Williamson.
