ROCKLAND — Mary Elizabeth Malmstrom, 86, died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Monday, November 22, 2021 after a brief stay at Pen Bay Medical Center.

Born in Rockland, September 23, 1935, she was the daughter of Franklin ‘Frank’ and Inez Grace Roberts Newhall. Educated in Rockland school, Mary left high school to help support her family. She was extremely proud to have earned her GED later in life when she was in her 50’s.

Mary was a hard worker her entire life and has always been a top performer in the fields she worked. When working at the local fish processing plants, it took more than one person to replace her when she wasn’t there. When her husband was deployed overseas, she often walked to work after her oldest son was born. Her cleaning skills at the Tradewinds, Pen Bay Medical Center and Bowdoin College were unsurpassed.

She had a special place in her heart for animals, especially dogs. Over the years, she has had many four-legged loves in her life and she loved them all equally. Taking them for walks was something she looked forward to each day.

She had a dynamic personality, and was known to be a bit feisty. You never had to wonder what Mary was thinking. She loved bright red lipstick and nail polish, and couldn’t get enough ‘bling’ from the jewelry she collected. As a young woman she loved to go dancing with her husband Victor.

A talented artist, Mary loved art. Her paintings and drawings were beautiful and will be cherished by her family. Mary’s number one priority in life was her family. She loved nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren whom she adored.

Her smile, laughter and love will be missed by all who loved her.

Predeceased by her husband, Victor Malmstrom, Sr., and two sisters, Marion Roy, and Lavonne ‘Bonnie’ Stone; Mary is survived by her children, Victor Malmstrom, Jr. and his wife Dale of Rockland, Corinne Malmstrom and her fiancé Reggie Johnson of Augusta, Timothy Malmstrom and his fiancée Lynn Willis of Thomaston; her grandchildren, Tori Robinson of Owls Head, Kevin Malmstrom and his fiancée Lilah Poole of Camden, Justin Malmstrom of Rockland, Chelsea Roberts and her husband Edward of Rockland, Allie McKenney and her husband Brandon of Glenburn; her great-grandchildren, Ashley and her fiancé Christopher, Kayla, Ty, Chase, Landon, Brooke, Cameron, Lochlan, Hailey; two great-great-grandchildren, Liam Malmstrom, Callie Prescott; her sisters, Carol Strollo and her husband Edmund of Owls Head, Karen Sprowl of Warren; a half-sister, Sharon Secotte and her husband Michael of Cushing; as well as many nieces, nephews and a large, loving extended family.

Family and friends are invite to visit Wednesday, December 1, 2021, from 1 to 3 p.m., at Burpee, Carpenter and Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. She will be laid to rest privately beside her husband at Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pope Memorial Humane Society, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, Maine 04841.
