Maine Cancer Foundation (MCF) has been awarded $25,000 through the WEX Hilary Rapkin Community Impact Grant, a philanthropic initiative funded and administered by WEX that recognizes nonprofit organizations making a meaningful difference in Southern Maine.
The grant is named in honor of Hilary Rapkin, a WEX leader who served the company for over three decades, and a champion for Maine-based nonprofits. In honor of her contributions to the community, the award supports organizations whose work aligns with the WEX commitment to champion positive change in the world and open possibilities for others.
"We are honored to receive the WEX Hilary Rapkin Community Impact Grant," said Ray Ruby, Executive Director of MCF. "This generous investment will help get closer to our fundraising goal for TRI for a Cure so that we can continue our work to address Maine's cancer burden and ensure that more people across our state have access to the prevention, screening, and support services they need. We are deeply grateful to WEX for its longstanding partnership and commitment to improving the health of Maine communities."
WEX, a global leader in intelligent payment solutions based in Portland, Maine, has supported MCF as presenting sponsor of TRI for a Cure, Maine's largest cancer fundraising event, for the past 15 years. Since 2008, TRI for a Cure participants, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters have raised more than $26 million to support MCF’s mission.
“WEX is honored to recognize the Maine Cancer Foundation as the recipient of the Hilary Rapkin Community Impact Grant. Supporting organizations that strengthen our communities reflects the WEX core value ‘Be a Positive Force,’” said Sandy Kuohn, Chief People Officer at WEX. “Through its commitment to improving the health and well-being of Maine citizens, the Maine Cancer Foundation exemplifies the spirit of service and lasting impact this award celebrates.”
For 50 years, MCF has worked alongside healthcare providers, community organizations, researchers, advocates, and donors to create a healthier future for Maine. This award will help further that work and ensure resources reach the people and communities that need them most.
