Local Color Gallery guest artist to speak during August artwalk: Spirits in the Land
Event Date
Friday, August 28, 2026 - 05:30 pmLocal Color Gallery welcomes guest artist Nell Parker from August 25 through September 20. She will talk about her work, New Topics: Spirits in the Land, at the August Art Walk reception on Friday, Aug. 28, from 4-7 p.m. Parker will speak at 5:30 p.m.
"Spirits in the Land" is a collection of linocut and woodcut relief prints that visually explore animist possibilities within the local landscape through the artist’s own pictorial heritage rooted in western art history, according to Local Color Gallery, in a news release.
"The European woodcut tradition carries its own richness that encodes ideas of land and nature within the medium," said the Gallery.
Parker’s work references early 20th century British printmaking, the work of Albrecht Durer, Renaissance art, and medieval woodcut traditions.
Parker lives with her family in a rambling 200-year-old farmhouse in rural Maine. She loves to “inter-be” with the surrounding landscape through growing her own food, celebrating the wheel of the year, and closely observing the surrounding world in the process of art making. See www.nellparker.com.
Local Color Gallery is located at 135 High Street in Belfast. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 to 5 and Sunday 11 to 4. For more information see localcolorgallerymaine.org or call 207-218-1249.
