Lobster Fest 'Big Parade' 2025 leans in, savors the sunshine
The Lobster Festival Parade, Aug. 2, 2025, in Rockland, was one of leaning in, leaning on, and leaning forward. The width of the parade lane narrowed considerably as spectators leaned in further and further. Intrepid selfie-takers leaned even more, and not just for the Oscar Mayer wienermobile, but for pirates, Shriners, and military uniforms. Candy flew from floats. Dog treats shuffled from participants to four-legged audience members, and bubbles enveloped the entire events, giving us a reason to lean in and be included.
Natural light on a sunny day, photographed at just the right angle (completely unintentional from this camera), enhanced features on float participants, regardless of whether those participants were formally posed, at rest, or even asleep by the time they passed Winter Street. As in years past, the parade started at 10 a.m., from the vicinity of Oceanside High School, on Broadway, and meandered down North Main Street and up Downtown Main Street the wrong way before breaking apart at Pleasant Street. The tail of the parade passed Winter Street between 11:15 and 11:30 a.m.
Following the parade, many spectators entered the Maine Lobster Festival grounds to snap pictures in front of the wienermobile, grab lunch, or to just relax for a moment and enjoy a beautiful Maine summer day.
