Midcoast Conservancy's Goosepecker Trekker returns Oct. 11
Goosepecker Trekker, a free, guided hike in the Northern Headwaters of the Sheepscot River, returns October 11, beginning at 10 a.m.
The headwaters of the Sheepscot River includes areas with beautiful mature forest, wetlands, and forested wetlands, according to host Midcoast Conservancy. More than 1700 acres of nearly contiguous protected land contribute to the health of this important river.
"The Sheepscot is important for brook trout and many ocean-run fish species including the endangered Atlantic salmon," said the Conservancy. "The Sheepscot is one of only eight rivers in the U.S. identified as critical habitat for the endangered Atlantic salmon."
The hike will start at 10 a.m. from the Whitten Hill Preserve Trailhead, 265 Halldale Road, Montville. Participants will learn about the conservation vision for the region, including a recently completed acquisition, and ongoing collaborative work with neighboring Sebasticook Regional Land Trust.
A free potluck lunch will follow the hike, at noon.
