Lincolnville boys basketball opens season 2-0, girls split 1-1

HOPE and ISLESBORO — The Lincolnville boys and girls middle school basketball teams opened their respective seasons with a pair of road trips. 

The girls are off to a 1-1 start with a loss in Hope on Nov. 26 and a win in Islesboro on Dec. 4. 

The boys are off to a 2-0 start with wins in Hope on Nov. 26 and in Islesboro on Dec. 4. 

Girls Basketball: Hope 57, Lincolnville 30

The Lynx girls team kicked off regular season action against a very talented Hawks squad in front of a packed house falling by a final of 57-30.

The first quarter saw the Hawks jump out to a 15-0 lead creating a deficit the Lynx were unable to overcome. Hope led 33-16 at the half and 49-24 after the third. 

Scoring for Lincolnville were Jaden Johnson (12 points), Roo Boetsch (four), Angel Haynes (four), Maren Johnson (four), Natalie Bolduc (four), Lucy O’Brien (two) and Grace Moody (two). 

Scoring for Hope were Kirsten (15 points), Leah (eight), Sierra (eight), Georgia (eight), Leah (eight), Thea (six) and Grace (two). Last names were not available. 

Boys Basketball: Lincolnville 61, Hope 53

In the boy’s game, the hosts proved to be a formidable foe for the Lynx, who were able to pull out a hard fought 61-53 season opening win.

Hope held narrow quarterly advantages of 10-8 and 25-24, respectively, following the first and second quarters. 

The third quarter saw Hope extend its lead to nine before the Lynx started their surge.

Sparked by two timely three-pointers by Thomas Leadbetter, the Lynx clawed back to within one point, 44-43, by the end of the third.

Carrying that renewed momentum into the fourth, the Lynx pulled away for a 61-53 season opening victory.

Scoring for Lincolnville were Hayden Davis (25 points), Preston Rossier (nine), Sage Burgess (nine), Leadbetter (six), Mason Clark (four), Avery Luft (four) and Kaden Wood (four). 

Scoring for Hope were Dominic Roberts (15 points), Nolan Ames (13), Miles Spear (12), Micah Fagonde (six), Hollis Schwam (four), Lincoln Wight (two) and Harris Stewart (one).

Girls Basketball: Lincolnville 51, Islesboro 6

The Lynx kicked off the action with a fury, overwhelming their opponents with a full court press and surging to a commanding 23-0 lead after the first quarter.

Lincolnville posted leads of 29-4 and 41-6 after the second and third quarters, respectively. 

It was truly a team effort as the coaches substituted frequently in the 51-6 victory.

Scoring for Lincolnville were Jaden Johnson (11 points), Roo Boetsch (10), Natalie Bolduc (eight), Chloe Day-Lynch (six), Grace Moody (six), Maren Johnson (four), Angel Haynes (two) and Lucy O’Brien (two)

Scoring for Islesboro were Kormann (four) and Leach (two). First names were not available. 

Boys Basketball: Lincolnville 55, Islesboro 28

The Lincolnville boys moved to 2-0 on the season with a 55-28 victory over the host Eagles.

Jumping out to an early 17-5 lead by the end of the first quarter allowed the coaches to substituted players frequently with all 17 team members seeing significant playing time.

It was a total team effort that lead to the Lynx victory with 12 out of 17 players scoring.

Scoring for Lincolnville were Sage Burgess (12 points), Canyon Palise (seven), Hayden Davis (seven), Bryce Curtis (six), Preston Rossiter (six), Thomas Leadbetter (five), Cam Gautreau (three), Avery Luft (two), Cayden Fowler (two), Matt Mitchell (two), Mickey Nowell (two) and Mason Clark (one). 

Scoring for Islesboro were Connor Start (11 points), Finnagan Calderwood (six), Owen Jagger (four), Blake Zlotkowski (two), Logan Burns (two), Max DuBois (two) and Nathan Waldron (two).
