Lincoln Academy baseball tops Oceanside

ROCKLAND — The Oceanside and Lincoln Academy varsity baseball teams squared off in Rockland on Friday, May 24. 

The game, which was originally slated to be played in Newcastle but moved due to poor field conditions at Lincoln Academy, was won by Lincoln Academy 8-1. 

With the loss, Oceanside dropped to 4-11 on the season. 

Up next for the Mariners will be the regular season finale Tuesday, May 28 at home against Medomak Valley at 4 p.m.

Oceanside plated its lone run in the opening inning, while recording one hit and six errors. 

Lincoln Academy tallied two runs in the first frame, one in the third, two in the fifth and three in the sixth, while recording six hits and three errors. 

Pitching for Lincoln Academy was Gus Hunt, who allowed one earned run, a hit, two walks and a hit-by-pitch in seven innings. Hunt also fanned eight batters. 

Working the mound for Oceanside was Karl Ilvonen, who allowed eight runs, one earned run, six hits and one walk in six innings. Ilvonen struck out three batters. 

Among Lincoln Academy’s offensive contributors were Nathan True (three singles, two runs, two RBIs) and Quincy Perry (double). 

Oceanside’s lone hit came courtesy Caleb Powell (single) with two outs remaining in the seventh frame.
