Lawrence blanks Oceanside baseball in afternoon tilt

FAIRFIELD — The Oceanside varsity baseball squad hit the road Friday, April 22 for an early afternoon affair with Lawrence, and saw its record fall to 0-2 as the hosts shut the Mariners out 4-0. 

Lawrence scored three of the runs in the third inning on RBIs by Gavin Wilson and Nate Griand, while Michael Hamlin delivered a sacrifice fly and a RBI double in the sixth. The hosts recorded six hits, no errors and three runners left on base. 

Oceanside, meanwhile, collected three hits, committed three errors and stranded five on base. 

Gavin Ripley, Connor Calderwood and Gil Stewart all had singles for Oceanside.

Working the pitcher’s mound for Lawrence was Hunter Lee, who tossed a complete game three-hitter, fanning 11 batters. Lee, offensively, contributed a double.

Jacob Watkinson tossed a complete game for the Mariners, allowing six hits while striking out two and allowing no walks. 

The next contest for Oceanside will come on the road Monday, April 25 against Waterville at 4 p.m.
