Lúnasa Irish Christmas concert at Camden Opera House, Dec. 20
Once again, Camden Opera House, 29 Elm St., brings Lúnasa’s annual winter tour to the Midcoast. The tour’s concert will be Saturday, Dec. 20, at 7:30 p.m., sponsored by Camden Maine Stay Inn and 40 Paper.
Lúnasa’s Irish Christmas show creates a musical tapestry that takes audience members back to the Irish homeland for the winter holidays, according to the Opera House, in a news release.
"Named for an ancient Celtic harvest festival, Lúnasa was formed in 1997 from members of some of the greatest Irish groups of the previous decade," said the Opera House. "From the start, this Irish Dream Team’s complex arrangements and unique sound reshaped the boundaries of traditional music and energized audiences the world over."
Having since performed more than 3,000 shows across 36 countries, Lúnasa has won multiple awards. Lúnasa’s current lineup includes uilleann piper Cillian Vallely, who was a member of Riverdance and recorded with Bruce Springsteen; Trevor Hutchinson, who achieved fame as the bassist with the The Waterboys and Sharon Shannon; and Kevin Crawford, considered one of Ireland’s greatest flute players, according to the Opera House, and was a member of Moving Cloud. The U.S. tour also features Colin Farrell on fiddle and whistle, Patrick Doocey on guitar, and special guest Dave Curley on vocals and more.
Choose-your-own reserved seat tickets are $48 in advance, $54 day-of-show, via camdenoperahouse.com or by calling (207) 236-3154. Doors and box office will open a half hour before the concert.
