Jane Grant Tootill Jackson, obituary
SOUTH THOMASTON — Jane Barbara Grant Tootill Jackson, 96, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
Jane was born on May 27, 1930, in Somesville on Mt. Desert Island and grew up in Halls Quarry. She attended local schools, participating in cheerleading, basketball, and softball. After graduating from Gilman High School in Northeast Harbor, she attended Bryant & Stratton Business College in Boston.
She later moved to Rockland after visiting her sister, Ruth. While working a summer job at the Chamber of Commerce, she met her husband. Together, they raised four children: Joel, Scott, Mark, and Lynn.
After her children had grown, Jane began working at Dave's Diner, where she remained for 30 years until it closed. When asked about her happiest memories, she spoke of her time at Dave's, meeting people, sharing laughs, and forming lifelong friendships.
Jane took great pride in her appearance, and her beautiful smile, spunk, and warm heart will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her sons, Joel and Mark; her daughter, Lynn; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was loved by many and loved everyone in return. She will be especially missed at her favorite local spot, the Keag Store.
A celebration of Jane's life will be held Friday, September 18, 2026, at 1 p.m., at People's United Methodist Church in South Thomaston, followed by a dessert buffet in the fellowship hall.
Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. To share a memory or condolence with Jane’s family, please visit their Book of Memories at www.bchfh.com.
