Central Maine Power employees donate 1,000-plus pounds of food to regional food banks ahead of Thanksgiving holiday
Employees of Central Maine Power (CMP), a subsidiary of Avangrid, donated more than 1,000 pounds of food through company-wide drives to regional food banks ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. The food collections were part of CMP’s participation in 92 Moose’s Camp Out Hunger and a company-wide food drive to fight hunger in Maine communities.
“Giving back is part of our DNA at CMP. Our employees donated more than half a ton of food to local food banks because we care deeply about supporting those in need,” said Linda Ball, President and CEO of CMP, in a news release. “We power Maine, and we’re proud to be good neighbors, helping each other when it matters most. This reflects our ongoing commitment to strengthen the communities we proudly serve and call home.”
CMP contributed nearly 900 pounds of non-perishable food to 92 Moose’s Camp Out Hunger Food Drive. CMP is a sponsor of the event, which is Central Maine’s largest annual food drive, helping the Capital Region Salvation Army stock its shelves with enough food to support families well into the summer months, according to CMP.
In addition, CMP employees donated nearly 1,000 food items to the Augusta Food Bank as part of the company-wide food drive. This initiative was part of a broader Avangrid effort spanning 27 offices across Maine, Connecticut, New York, and Oregon, resulting in the collection of more than 10,000 food items donated to 20 local food pantries.
"The food need is especially urgent, especially during the holiday season. Central Maine Power has been a terrific supporter of the Augusta Food Bank for many years. Their recent donation of non-perishable food couldn't come at a better time,” said Bob Moore, CEO of the Augusta Food Bank. “The AFB will provide more than 1,000,000 meals in total this year to 2,500 individuals each month through a variety of programs we offer. Community support like this makes it possible for us to meet those needs. When local businesses and organizations step up, it reminds us that fighting hunger is truly a community effort.”
In 2025, CMP employees dedicated their time to volunteer with Maine organizations such as Mid Coast Hunger Prevention, Preble Street Food Security Hub, United Way of Kennebec Valley, The Locker Project, and Wayside Food Program.
