I have known Zach Schmesser and his family for eight years. Our children play together and attend the same public school. Over those years I have had the opportunity to see Zach at work in our community. I believe he would be a fantastic addition to Belfast City Council.

Belfast is a working town. Zach recognizes that. He understands that the decisions made in City Hall have real consequences for the people who live and work here—for families trying to afford to stay in Belfast, for local businesses, and for residents who want to know that their tax dollars are being used responsibly.

There is a need for clear communication and financial accountability from our city government. Residents should be able to understand how major decisions are being made, what they will cost, and why they are in Belfast's best interest. I believe Zach will ask the right questions, seek out the information needed, and communicate openly with residents.

One of the qualities I appreciate about Zach is that he is willing to show up and do the work. He never shirks from lending a hand when it is needed. On a personal level, we have moved more heavy things together than my back cares to remember. That willingness to pitch in is also something I have seen in his professional and community life. He doesn't just care about Belfast in the abstract; he participates in it.

Zach and his family are invested in this community for the long-term. Their children are growing up here and attending our public schools, and their family has deep roots in the Mid-Coast. They support the area through their work, their relationships, and the choices they make as a family. My own family even purchases much of our meat from Zach's mother-in-law. These types of connections are part of what makes Belfast a community rather than simply a place to live or visit.

I am glad that Zach is willing to serve, and I strongly support his election to represent Ward 2 on the Belfast City Council.
