DHHS warns of phone scam in Southern Maine

AUGUSTA — The Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is warning the public of a phone scam in which a prerecorded message indicates that the caller is from DHHS and solicits personal information, specifically social security numbers and birth dates.
These calls have been occurring in the southern Maine region.
Should any member of the public receive a call of this nature, be advised that this is a scam and do not provide any information. DHHS will never call asking for personal information in a prerecorded message.
